EMPOWERING SYRIAN REFUGEE CHILDREN IN LEBANON
2017-2026
IECD
For over 30 years, the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement - IECD) has put education, vocational training and entrepreneurship at the core of its mission with the aim of strengthening people’s skills and capacities to build a better future. Partnering with local institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Basin and Southeast Asia, IECD works to create environments where everyone can express their talents. We have been supporting IECD in Madagascar since 2017 and in Lebanon since 2020, focusing mainly on rural youth access to secondary and tertiary education.
CHALLENGE
ACTION
IECD’s Janah Centre was established in Beirut in 2007 to welcome children and teenagers from vulnerable Syrian and Lebanese families.
Offering every child academic support, extracurricular activities, personal guidance and a daily nutritious snack, the centre benefits in particular the chronically underserved neighbourhood of Sabtyeh.
IECD aims to support 500 Lebanese and refugee youths aged from 12 to 18 between 2023 and 2025, assisting them to find their place in society and build a brighter future.
